"Let's go explore the old abandoned manor house!" I said. So we did.

According to the internets, there has been a fortress here since at least 1200s. The current stone structure started out in the 1600s, heavily modified in the 1700s and again in the 1800s. In the mid 1900s it spent some time as a hotel, before being gutted for anthing of value and left to rot by 1960. (pictures of what it looked like)

It's still pretty impressive, and very dangerous. Luckily, there are no "KEEP OUT" signs so me and my colleague went on a proper explore.

Kenmuir Castle

the inside is mostly rubble. Alright, it's all rubble. With dodgy spiral staircases that look that they are about to fall down. Of course we climbed them.

The wooden slats on the walls would have been plastered and painted/wallpapered.

Corridor
Some parts of the cellars were still accessible, if death holds no fear for you, as is the case with me and my colleague.

Eventually, after clambering about mounds of rubble and ducking under collapsed floors, we came across this:

I see.

The grounds outside must have been stunning once too, with a walled garden (now heavily overgrown with brambles and trees) a big grassy area lined by beech trees, now mown only by sheep

and this enormous tree

THE END

So that was actually pretty exciting after all
