The reason I have not been updating much is, apart from total internet time amounting to about 15 minutes a week, is that I've spent the past two months sitting around a farmhouse on the edge of a village while the organisation we work for shows itself to be utterly utter disorganised. This came to a head the other day as we demanded holiday - they insist we stay in the house "in case we are needed" or some such bollocks. Miguel, the Daego, had a go at Lazaros, our Mentor, who agreed that we could take seven days off - so we buggered off sharpish to Thessoloniki, from where Cindy went south to meet her spanish boyfriend Ooni (which I now realse bears a passing resemblance to the greek word for pig)While me, Miguel and Lidon went to the far North East to stay with some other EVS volunteers we met on a seminar in Athens last month.
We were out in Dadia Forest, on the border with Turkey and Bulgaria, very beautiful but bloody hot, requiring starting the day at 5am. I stayed from Saturday until Monday, when me and Lidon got the train to Alexandropolous. From there I left Lidon, who had vague spanish plans to go to an island somewhere, while I got the 6 hour train back to Thessaloniki., I checked into a cheap Hotel, Hotel Acropol, then spent *5 hours* looking for a cheap bikini, managing to find one approx 15 minutes before I was due to meet..
FORBES!
Woo! Another brit! We spent the evening drinking beer and checking out the gay bars, which were frankly dismal, empty places where the barman completely failed to understand that we wanted to know where there were other *gay* bars, not *other bars*
This morning, we headed off to the beach, me phoning Cindy the frog to find ot where it was. It was called Leptokaria, which sounds like a nasty debilitating disease but is actually a touristy town on the sea, with a beach full of topless women and some bars. It was nice, not too hot, and I swam in the sea for the first time in about 4 years, which entertained me endlessly. It's absolutely fantastic having Forbes here, another Brit to speak to, someone who finds things like a hotel, a beer and a train called "Vergina" funny. (I rode the Vergina for 6 hours to get to Dadia the other day)
now I have fab patchy sunburn. I should have gone topless, as Miguel informed me the other day that all of Brtiains problems, with the NHS, the trains, the government, is because we aren't allowed to sunbathe topless. This is akin to an orthodox muslim state and represses our individual freedom and creativity. I tried to point out that we are more restricted by the average tempertaure in the UK but he didn't listen.
Hopefully, photos in a week or so.
love you all, I'll slurp some Vergina on your behalf!
