The MOD owns a vast swathe of upper Redesdale and Coquetdale, which is usually shut to the public so soldiers can, er, play soldiers and blow each other up and stuff. Except for a random weekend a month, and even then you have to STAY ON THE ROADS AND PUBLIC RIGHTS OF WAY OR YOU GET BLOWN UP so it's always full of ramblers and people having picnics in really unlikely places, like on top of a concrete roadside bunker, as everyone tries to go on the one weekend.

During Lambing, however, the farmers kick off and all the soliders go on holiday for a whole month. This means it's a lot more quieter, so dad took me on an epic drive-by tour of the ranges.

then we went for a walk along an old quarry, where there are some REALLY EXCITING holes in the ground. Well, that sounds a bit too exciting - they're more like large depressions in the field. They show where a Limestone Cavern has collapsed underground. But you can't actually see anything other than the field, so I didn't take a picture, but we went to the quarry

and I found a fossil!!!! (I want to send it to Fred, does anyone have his address?) Then we walked past a shepherd lambing some yows. It felt a bit rude to take a picture of a Ewe giving birth, here is another Ewe and an eager sheepdog:

And, of course, A LAMBLETTE
yet another bloody lamb

THE END.
