Cable Theft

One of the wind farms I manage the ecology of (er, kind of) is a 60 turbine site near Dunbar, and the 12 turbine site next door. Additionally, another company has built a 20-odd turbine site next to that, so that's a lot of turbines. Because of the amount of electricity, there's a huge substation connecting it to the national grid, and the added fun that if the site goes down, it can knock out Torness Nuclear plant and black out most of southern Scotland.

Twice now there's been attempted break-ins at the substation to thieve the copper cables; the police came round to talk to the site managers about security.
Police 1: "So, how bad would it be if they were shocked? Are we talking ambulances?"
Site manager: "We're talking dustpan and brush"

Seriously. I cannot believe people try to nick cable from a massive electrical substation.

some people take 'SEVERE DANGER OF DEATH' as a challenge.

mostly very stupid people. I think there's an award for that sort of thing.
